Expression of nm23 Protein in Colorectal Carcinoma

Abstract
nm23 is a putative metastasis suppressor gene and alterations in this gene have been reported in colorectal carcinomas suggestive of a role for nm23 in the dissemination of these tumors. This study was attempted to evaluate the correlation
between
the
expression of nm23 protein and prognostic factors such as depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis, histologic differentiation and tumor stage. We performed an immunohistochemical study on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded section of colorectal
carcinomas from 60 patients. The staining results were scored from 0 to 7 according to the proportion and intensity of tumor cells positivity. The expression of nm23 protein in carcinoma was significantly higher than that in normal colon tissue.
The
degree of nm23 expression according to histologic differentiation tended to be decreased with progression to poor differentiation, But the expression of nm23 protein showed no correlation wit the depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and tumor
stage.
